all right then!. basically, protheans were kinda warmongering dicks, and their empire consisted of multiple species. every time they would conquer another one, they would make them adopt their culture and call them protheans. so its a copout way of saying - we can give prothean any look we want. and actually, now that I think of it - this is quite a bit of a retcon from ME1 that, that got it start before ME3 squadmates were finalized, becasue well... in ME2, at the same spot where you get your special weapon skill, there's a "dum dum DUM" reveal that collectors are genetically protheans. and the Ilos statues are not explained there either.
gah.
I'm just chalking it up to Hack Walter's handywork, and giving up trying to make sense of this games continuity. consistency is not on the menu. hey at least we're not getting dead squadmates being alive anyways, like in Dragon age :P
