My guess would be that they are in your guns. Seeing as how the mass effect pretty much gets rid of reloading.

A mass effect field generator in the gun allows for near limitless ammount of ammo from one solid block of metal (I forget the type used) and the guns over heat due the amount of.....heat the ME field....generates. Remember how the Normandy has to vent whenever it docks?

yeah i remember but i think the overheating makes u consider how u fight in combat, u dont want to go in all guns blazing and firing at something in a hurry (maybe missing) and then be open to attack because u r waiting for ur gun to cool off
